        "content": "<p>Plot to kill Kumaratunga uncovered<\/p>\n<p>COLOMBO (Reuter): Sri Lankan police have arrested a senior<br>\nTamil Tiger rebel suicide squad member planning to assassinate<br>\nPresident Chandrika Kumaratunga, the state-owned Sunday Observer<br>\nnewspaper reported.<\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old suspect, Anthonypillai Nesarajah, also known<br>\nas Major Rahu Appa, had videotaped Temple Trees, Kumaratunga's<br>\nofficial residence, from a high-rise building in the capital<br>\nColombo, the paper said.<\/p>\n<p>He had also revealed plans to attack helicopters used to<br>\ntransport senior government officials, it said.<\/p>\n<p>A military spokesman said he had no information on the report.<\/p>\n<p>A Tamil Tiger spokesman in London, Anton Rajah, said he had no<br>\ninformation on the report but said the government has arrested<br>\ninnocent Tamil civilians and then falsely claimed they were<br>\nmembers of the rebel group.<\/p>\n<p>Government officials have said Kumaratunga is planning to move<br>\nfrom her heavily guarded residence in the heart of Colombo to a<br>\nmore secure location in the suburbs.<\/p>\n<p>Kumaratunga's Temple Trees residence is protected by radar,<br>\nanti-aircraft guns and bunkers. Several roads in the<br>\nneighborhood have been closed to traffic.<\/p>\n<p>Tamil Tiger rebels are believed to have acquired microlight<br>\naircraft for suicide attacks on targets like government leaders,<br>\nmilitary officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Nesarajah has also claimed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil<br>\nEelam (LTTE) rebels were holding nearly 100 Sri Lankan military<br>\nofficials and Indian intelligence agents at a secret bunker in<br>\nnorthwestern Mannar, the paper said.<\/p>\n<p>It did not say if any of the detainees were Indian nationals.<\/p>\n<p>LTTE rebels are fighting for an independent homeland for<br>\nminority Tamils in the north and east of the island. The<br>\ncountry's majority people are Sinhalese.<\/p>",
