It is unreasonable for state electricity company PLN to
\ndistribute bonuses, though PLN's loss decreased by over half from
\nRp 5.9 trillion in 2003 to Rp 2.02 trillion in 2004, which was a
\nvery big success.<\/p>\n
But the question is whether PLN booked a profit or whether it
\njust managed to cut its losses. It makes sense for a company to
\nhand out bonuses if it books a profit. But in reality this was
\nnot the case with PLN.<\/p>\n
Even if PLN's performance was good in that it was able to cut
\nits losses, instead of handing out bonuses the company should
\nhave used the money to improve its infrastructure to provide
\nbetter service to the public.<\/p>\n
PLN's power supply has to be rationed in several regions as a
\nresult of its inadequate infrastructure. Therefore, in my view,
\nthese bonuses are mere camouflage to hire graft at the state
\ncompany.<\/p>\n
