PLN to launch 'zero interruption' next year<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Jakarta and Tangerang distribution branch of
\nthe state-owned electricity company, PT PLN, is to apply a
\nprogram called \"zero interruption\" to reduce electricity
\nblackouts from January next year, an official said yesterday.<\/p>\n
Branch head Tunggono said the program, which is scheduled to
\nbe completed in 1998, would be phased in gradually.<\/p>\n
\"So, there won't be any electricity blackouts because of
\ninstallation workings,\" Tunggono said.<\/p>\n
He said the company often cuts off the power to areas when
\nrepairing the seven main electrical relay stations.<\/p>\n
\"We will make sure the regular repairs to the relay stations
\nwill not affect electricity supply,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Under the program repairs can be carried out alternately,
\nmeaning that while some of the main relay stations were being
\nrepaired, others would remain in operation.<\/p>\n
Tunggono also said the company would install electronic meters
\nto get accurate data on the electricity power used by
\nsubscribers.<\/p>\n
\"With the devices, we hope we can reduce electricity current
\nlosses,\" Tunggono said.<\/p>\n
The devices, that cost Rp 2 million (US$858) each, would be
\nused initially for the 9,000 customers with an average monthly
\nbill of Rp 500 million, he said. (jun)<\/p>",
