        "content": "<p>PLN to halt blackouts for vote count<\/p>\n<p>PEKANBARU, Riau: The local unit of state-owned electricity<br>\ncompany PLN in Riau pledged on Monday to temporarily stop the<br>\nrolling blackouts that have been going on for the past month to<br>\nensure the presidential election passed off successfully.<\/p>\n<p>\"We will make every effort not to cut supplies for five days<br>\nafter the election so as to ensure a smooth vote count,\" said<br>\nRiau PLN spokesman Delvis in Pekanbaru.<\/p>\n<p>However, he asked for the understanding of the public if any<br>\ntechnical problems arose, including natural disaster, that could<br>\ncause power cuts. Riau was covered by smoke from forest and<br>\ncropland fires last week.<\/p>\n<p>Delvis said that PLN would optimize the use of the Kotopanjang<br>\nhydropower plant in Kampar regency to increase power supplies.<\/p>\n<p>PLN would be forced to impose even longer rolling blackouts<br>\nnext week if the water level in the dam continued to fall with<br>\nthe result that the hydro-plant turbines could no longer be<br>\nturned. --JP<\/p>",
