        "content": "<p>Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - PT PLN (Persero) is strengthening its\ncommitment to accelerating the clean energy transition through the\nplanned construction of the Grindulu Pumped Storage Hydropower Plant in\nPacitan Regency, East Java, with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts (MW).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project is projected to be the second-largest pumped storage\nhydropower plant in Indonesia,\u201d said General Manager of PLN UIP JBTB,\nMoh Fathol Arifin, in Surabaya, East Java, on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Fathol said that the Grindulu Pumped Storage Hydropower Plant project\nis a concrete step by PLN in supporting the government\u2019s target of\nachieving net zero emissions (NZE).<\/p>\n<p>According to him, this infrastructure is not just a power plant, but\na solution for future energy storage.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the Grindulu Pumped Storage Hydropower Plant will\nbe a new backbone for the electricity system in the eastern Java and\nBali regions.<\/p>\n<p>With a capacity of 1,000 MW, this project will play a vital role in\nmaintaining the stability of the electricity supply from intermittent\nrenewable energy sources.<\/p>\n<p>Manager of PLN UPP JBTB 1 Yogyakarta, Wahyu Kurniawan, said that this\nproject is a crucial part of the 2025-2034 Electricity Supply Business\nPlan (RUPTL).<\/p>\n<p>Currently, he said, PLN is preparing a feasibility study for the\nconstruction in Ketro Village, Tulakan District, and Pucangombo Village,\nTegalombo District.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPLN hopes that this project will have a multiplier effect on the\nlocal economy of Pacitan,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike conventional hydropower plants, pumped storage technology\nfunctions as a large-scale energy storage system or giant battery.<\/p>\n<p>This system has two reservoirs (upper and lower) which are connected\nby a water tunnel and pump turbine unit, making it very effective in\nmaintaining system reliability during peak loads.<\/p>\n<p>The Regent of Pacitan, Indrata Nur Bayuaji, also fully supports the\nplan because it will position Pacitan as a center for energy innovation\nin Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is both a challenge and a great opportunity. I believe there\nare long-term benefits for the region because this is new technology. I\nhope this project runs smoothly and Pacitan can become a pilot for the\ndevelopment of clean energy at the national level,\u201d said Indrata.<\/p>",
