PLN inaugurated the fifth SPKLU centre in Jakarta, marking the 5,000th SPKLU nationwide as Indonesia’s EV charging network expands. The move is part of a broader push to accelerate energy transition and electrification, with PLN emphasising reliable services and public education to grow the EV ecosystem. Data show home charging dominates, but SPKLU usage rises for long trips, supported by digital services to locate stations and monitor queues.

Indonesia’s state-controlled electricity company PLN (Persero) has
expanded access to charging facilities as its nationwide network of
Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) grows. On Wednesday,
20 May, PLN inaugurated the SPKLU Centre Tanjung Priok in North Jakarta,
the fifth SPKLU centre in Indonesia.

Deputy Administrative Mayor of North Jakarta, Fredy Setiawan,
welcomed the SPKLU Centre Tanjung Priok, saying it could support the
transition to clean energy by accelerating transport electrification.
‘Operating this SPKLU centre here can give confidence to the public,
especially in North Jakarta, to start shifting from fossil energy to
electricity. It is more efficient, more modern and more environmentally
friendly,’ said Fredy. He emphasised the importance of collaboration
between local government and PLN to broaden education and strengthen the
EV ecosystem amid rising energy demands for the future. ‘Later we will
invite PLN to jointly educate the public. The SPKLU will also be a place
of learning; in the future we will socialise it to every district and
sub-district. Through collaboration with PLN, we hope more people will
switch to electric vehicles,’ he added.

Adi Priyanto, Director of Retail and Consumer PLN, said the
widespread SPKLU infrastructure is part of PLN’s commitment to provide
reliable and comfortable electric vehicle services for the public, while
supporting the government’s drive to accelerate the energy transition
and electrification across sectors. ‘With the operation of 5,000 SPKLU
units spread across 3,162 locations nationwide, EV users will not have
to worry about running out of power while on the road. This ensures
charging services run smoothly. Nationally, the average queue at SPKLU
is only 1.3 vehicles per connector per day,’ Adi said.

Adi added that, according to PLN’s data up to April 2026, about 66
percent of EV charging occurs at home via home charging services (HCS),
while 34 percent uses SPKLU for mobility outside home, especially on
long-distance trips and fast charging.

General Manager of PLN Unit Induk Distribusi (UID) Jakarta Raya,
Moch. Andy Adchaminoerdin, explained that SPKLU availability in Jakarta
and surrounding areas continues to grow to keep pace with rapid EV
development in the capital. ‘With the fifth SPKLU centre in Jakarta, we
want to reassure the public, especially in Jakarta and its environs,
that there is no need to doubt or fear switching to electric vehicles as
a daily mobility solution,’ Andy said. He explained that the facilities
at SPKLU Centre Tanjung Priok include eight Ultra Fast Charging units,
one Medium Charging unit, and support for two-wheeled vehicles with two
SPKLU units and two SPBKLU units.

The SPKLU Centre complements similar facilities already operating in
Bulungan, Menteng, Rest Area Cibubur KM 10.6 Toll Jagorawi, and Sakura
Garden City, East Jakarta. To date, PLN and its partners have operated
724 SPKLU units across 405 locations in DKI Jakarta.

Additionally, to assist EV users, PLN has introduced Electric Vehicle
Digital Services (EVDS) via the PLN Mobile app. Through EVDS, EV users
can easily locate the nearest SPKLU, plan routes, and monitor charging
queues in real time.

‘With expanding infrastructure and integrated digital services, PLN
is optimistic that EVs will be adopted more widely and become part of a
green lifestyle for the community,’ concluded Andy.
",
