PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo has confirmed that rolling blackouts in Java have ceased since 21 June 2026. The state electricity company has strengthened the power system by securing additional medium-to-high calorie coal supplies. This measure, along with a planned 4.6 GW capacity increase by 2027, aims to ensure the reliability of Java's electricity grid.

The President Director of PT PLN (Persero), Darmawan Prasodjo, has
ensured that there will be no more power outages in Java, as the company
strengthens the electricity system to prevent such incidents from
recurring.

“The condition of the electricity system, especially in Java, has
seen no more rotational power outages since 21 June 2026,” Darmawan
stated in Jakarta on Thursday during a Hearing Session with Commission
XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI).

Darmawan noted that PLN will maintain and anticipate power outages in
Java through a system reliability enhancement programme, planned in
accordance with the directives of the Minister of Energy and Mineral
Resources (ESDM).

According to him, the maintenance of the electricity system involves
increasing the supply of medium to high-calorific coal—specifically
4,500 calories and above. This supply, allocated specifically for PLN
from the Ministry of ESDM, amounts to 1.8 million tonnes “on top” of the
existing supply for July.

“Furthermore, there will be 3 million tonnes per month from August to
December, resulting in an additional supply capacity of 5 gigawatts (GW)
above the existing 35.9 GW,” he said.

Darmawan added that this increase in electricity supply will make the
electricity system in Java significantly more reliable.

Additionally, he continued, there will be an additional 4.6 GW of
electricity supply in 2027. This addition will ensure that the system in
Java, which previously experienced rotational outages, will immediately
become much more dependable.

Darmawan acknowledged that, by volume, the percentage of national
low-calorific coal production was previously smaller than high-calorific
coal. However, over time, the production of low-calorific coal has
increased, while the production of medium and high-calorific coal has
been declining.

“With these measures, the energy supply constraints that previously
occurred in Java have been corrected, and the rotational power outages
have been successfully resolved,” he added.
",
