Plaza Semanggi management told to widen nearby road<\/p>\n
The City Transportation Agency demanded the management of newly-
\nlaunched Plaza Semanggi in Central Jakarta immediately widen Jl.
\nGarnisun located behind the building as required by the traffic
\nimpact analysis.<\/p>\n
Agency head Rustam Effendy said on Thursday that the
\ndevelopment company must widen the road to avoid traffic
\ncongestion.<\/p>\n
"Otherwise the city administration has the right to shut down
\nthe building," Rustam said.<\/p>\n
Serious traffic congestion marked Wednesday's soft opening of
\nthe plaza, which is located on the land belonging to the military
\nveterans foundation on the corner of Jl. Jend. Sudirman and Jl.
\nJend. Gatot Subroto.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian Customers Organization (YLKI) has criticized
\nthe administration for giving the go-ahead to the project despite
\nknowing it would cause serious traffic problems.<\/p>\n
The congestion near the plaza has also been a concern to city
\ncouncillors during a hearing with the City Spatial Agency.<\/p>\n
