        "content": "<p>A community service team from Mercu Buana University has implemented\na programme using plastic shredding machines to produce permeable paving\nblocks in Meruya Utara, West Jakarta. The initiative, supported by the\nDirectorate of Research and Community Service of the Ministry of Higher\nEducation, Science, and Technology, also included digital financial\nrecording training for PKK cadres and MSMEs. Team leader Fitri\nIndriawati stated the programme was designed not only to reduce plastic\nwaste accumulation but also to build the community\u2019s capacity to\nindependently manage a circular economy-based business. By utilising the\nshredding machines, household waste is processed into raw material for\nwater-permeable paving blocks. These products feature pores that allow\nrainwater to seep into the ground, improving soil absorption and\nreducing surface runoff. In addition to waste processing, participants\nreceived training in digital financial recording using Microsoft Excel.\nThe material covered cash receipt and disbursement records, production\ncost calculations, and the preparation of profit and loss statements,\nbalance sheets, and cash flow reports. The digitalisation of financial\nrecords is expected to help PKK cadres and MSMEs manage their businesses\nin a more orderly, transparent, and accountable manner, enabling waste\nprocessing activities to develop into sustainable enterprises. Meruya\nUtara Sub-district Head Agustiawan noted that waste management remains a\npersistent challenge in urban areas, including Jakarta. He emphasised\nthe importance of innovations that can be directly applied at the\ncommunity level to strengthen waste management at its source. Mercu\nBuana University stated that ongoing assistance will be provided to\nensure the community can independently operate the plastic shredding\nmachines, produce permeable paving blocks, and implement digital\nfinancial recording systems.
