PlasaCom relaunched<\/p>\n

State-owned telecommunications company PT Telkom relaunched on
\nWednesday its PlasaCom portal service and expects to reach 1.2
\nmillion users this year.<\/p>\n
Head of Telkom multimedia division Adeng Achmad said that the
\nservice would benefit Internet users since it provided more
\nspecific facilities and easy access.<\/p>\n
\"Telkom has its own telecommunications infrastructure and
\nnetwork across the country so it is easy to deal with the
\nInternet traffic,\" Adeng said.<\/p>\n
The company launched PlasaCom in 1997 with limited users in
\neducation and general communication services.<\/p>\n
It said that PlasaCom gained 960,000 e-mail users and
\ndelivered 30.3 million messages in March this year.<\/p>\n
The PlasaCom portal service is a business unit of the Telkom
\nmultimedia division which supports Telkom's Internet access
\nservice called TelkomNet Instan by providing content services.
\nThe company said it reaped 2 million hours of Internet access
\nevery month.<\/p>\n
Telkom targets the corporate sector, professionals and young
\npeople as users of its portal service. It said that PlasaCom
\nservices include general communications services such as e-mail,
\nchatting, webforum, and also specific services such as online
\nadvertising, financial information and transactions on the
\nJakarta Stock Exchange, e-commerce, and tourism information.<\/p>\n
\"The public should be encouraged to use the Internet. We will
\nonly charge the users for the specific services they use,\" Adeng
\nsaid.<\/p>",
