BOGOR \u2013 EIGER is developing the EIGER Nature ecotourism destination\nin Bogor, West Java, integrating nature tourism activities,\nenvironmental conservation, and community empowerment. In developing the\narea, EIGER has planted more than 120,000 trees.<\/p>\n
Beyond tree planting, the development also includes the planting of\naround 8 million shrubs and ground cover plants, land restoration,\nbiodiversity mapping, water and hydrology management, and waste\nmanagement systems.<\/p>\n
EIGER Nature was previously known as EIGER Adventure Land.<\/p>\n
The identity change was made as part of sharpening the direction of\nthe area\u2019s development into an ecotourism destination that integrates\necological, social, cultural, and economic aspects.<\/p>\n
Chief Executive Officer of EIGER Nature Imanuel Wirajaya said the\nchange was not merely a rebranding. According to him, developing the\narea is part of EIGER\u2019s ongoing process of learning from nature,\nculture, and people.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis change is not just about the name, but about our commitment to\nbuilding an ecotourism venture that can be a blessing for visitors,\nnature, culture, and communities,\u201d said Imanuel.<\/p>\n
In its development, EIGER Nature uses a 3E Ecotourism approach\nencompassing Ecology, Ethnology, and Economy. This approach has since\nbeen expanded into a 7E framework covering Ecology, Ethnology, Economy,\nEducation, Aesthetics, Ethics, and Entertainment.<\/p>\n
This framework underpins the area\u2019s planning and programme\ndevelopment, so that tourism activities can run in step with nature\nconservation, cultural preservation, education, and community\nempowerment.<\/p>\n
\u201cEcotourism is not just about bringing people to nature. Ecotourism\nmust be able to build better relationships between people, nature,\nculture, and communities, while delivering sustainable benefits,\u201d said\nImanuel.<\/p>\n
From a social and economic perspective, more than 500 workers have\nbeen involved in the development of EIGER Nature. Around 300 of them\ncome from communities surrounding the area.<\/p>\n
Once it begins operating, EIGER Nature is projected to create more\nthan 1,200 jobs.<\/p>\n
EIGER Nature also plans to allocate 5 per cent of its net profit to\nsupport nature and cultural preservation programmes as well as\ninitiatives to improve community quality of life. These programmes\ninclude conservation activities, waste management, and the 1 Ticket 1\nTree initiative.<\/p>\n
In terms of visitor experience, EIGER Nature integrates nature-based\nactivities with elements of adventure, culture, and hospitality.\nFacilities and activities on offer include a Suspension Bridge, Tree\nHouse & Net Adventure, Cultural Walk, Playscape, Nature Walk, and\nForest Adventure.<\/p>\n
A Forest Camp area has also been prepared for visitors wishing to\nstay overnight amid a natural environment, with options including a\nCamping Ground, Glamping, and Cabins.<\/p>\n
Imanuel said the experiences on offer are expected to go beyond mere\nrecreation.<\/p>\n
