Plantations illegally occupied<\/p>\n
SEMARANG: As many as 995 hectares of plantation land
\nbelonging to the state have been illegally occupied by residents
\nwithin the last year, an official said.<\/p>\n
\"These illegal occupations have inflicted a total loss of Rp 6
\nbillion on the state,\" Nazaruddin Thoha the head of the Central
\nJava Plantations Office said here on Monday.<\/p>\n
The occupied land includes cocoa, coffee, rubber, clove and
\ncotton plantations located in several places such as Kebumen and
\nSemarang, he said.<\/p>\n
\"The illegal occupations seem to have been well organized,\" he
\nsaid, citing that the people had no fear of acting openly.<\/p>\n
\"The motive for the unlawful occupations are their accusations
\nthat the plantation office illegally took control of the land
\nwhich they claim to belonged to their ancestors,\" Thoha said.
\n\"Many of the residents demanded that the plantation office allow
\nthem to cultivate the plots.\"<\/p>\n
According to Thoha, such problems must be dealt with in a calm
\nand considered manner. Meetings with local figures and residents
\nhave been held.<\/p>\n
\"Cooperation with the people living around the plantations
\nwill be the best solution to help them earn money,\" he said.
