        "content": "<p>Plagiarized paper?<\/p>\n<p>As an Indonesian living in an increasingly global world, I<br>\napplaud my country's initiative in allowing international<br>\nconferences to be staged here.<\/p>\n<p>One such conference, entitled Communications, Culture, and<br>\nDevelopment, sponsored by Asian Mass Media Communications<br>\nResearch and Information, headquartered in Singapore, is<br>\nscheduled for June 22 to June 24, 1995, at the Hotel Indonesia,<br>\nJakarta.<\/p>\n<p>As I am very interested in the conference, I obtained a copy<br>\nof its program. I noticed that on Friday, June 23, between 14.00<br>\nand 15.30 hours, a session will be presented entitled Virtual<br>\nClassroom: Distance Learning in the Information Age, presented by<br>\nMr David Murphy, from the Open Learning Institute of Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<p>Most interesting, I thought.<\/p>\n<p>However, as it happens, I have just acquired a copy of a text<br>\nby the title In Search of the Virtual Class: Education in an<br>\nInformation Society by John Tiffin and Lalita Rajasingham.<\/p>\n<p>This book, published by Routledge, in London, and New York,<br>\nhits the market this month, and has been internationally<br>\nacclaimed.<\/p>\n<p>I understand that the conference to be held at the Hotel<br>\nIndonesia will not publish the proceedings. This makes me rather<br>\nsuspicious.<\/p>\n<p>As an amateur, albeit an interested and (I hope) enlightened<br>\none, I smell a rat! Is the above mentioned paper a reproduction<br>\nof the salient features already contained within the said book,<br>\nwhich is an excellent exposition of the subject?<\/p>\n<p>If not, will the author of the paper do us a favor by<br>\nadequately and honestly sourcing his paper? Or will we,<br>\nIndonesians, be presented with a plagiarized version of the said<br>\npublication by John Tiffin and Lalita Rajasingham?<\/p>\n<p>I don't think we Indonesians need to have the wool pulled over<br>\nour eyes.<\/p>\n<p>MS SOETAMI KOESTOMO<\/p>\n<p>Bogor, West Java<\/p>",
