The Head of the PKS Presidential Staff Office, Pipin Sopian, has\ndescribed the statement by Budi Arie Setiadi, known as the Chairman of\nProjo and former Minister of Cooperatives, regarding the possibility of\nan \u2018acceleration\u2019 before the 2029 General Election as an unhealthy\npolitical provocation that is dangerous for Indonesian democracy.<\/p>\n
According to Pipin, such discourse should not be thrown into the\npublic sphere without a clear explanation of what is meant by\n\u2018acceleration\u2019 and through what constitutional mechanism it would be\ncarried out.<\/p>\n
\u2018I see Budi Arie\u2019s statement as a form of political provocation. The\nterm \u2019acceleration\u2019 before 2029 is not a light statement. It could\ntrigger speculation, commotion and political uncertainty among the\npublic,\u2019 said the politician from Purwakarta in his statement on\nWednesday (26\/8).<\/p>\n
The PKS spokesman stressed that Indonesia already has constitutional\nmechanisms governing the presidential term of office and the process of\ntransferring power. Therefore, there must be no attempt to build public\nopinion as if a change or transfer of power could be carried out based\non momentary political situations.<\/p>\n
\u2018We must not play games with the constitution. The President has a\nmandate from the people to lead until 2029. That mandate must be\nrespected and safeguarded together,\u2019 he asserted.<\/p>\n
The University of Indonesia political science alumnus also\nhighlighted that the statement was delivered in a video showing former\nPresident Joko Widodo standing next to Budi Arie. He said his party did\nnot wish to draw conclusions about Jokowi\u2019s involvement, but the\nsituation certainly raised questions among the public.<\/p>\n
\u2018We are not accusing Mr Jokowi. But the public certainly wonders why\nthis \u2019acceleration\u2019 discourse emerged and was delivered in such a\nsituation. Therefore, if it is indeed only Budi Arie\u2019s personal opinion,\nMr Jokowi should explain openly so that it does not become a loose\nball,\u2019 said Pipin.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Pipin stressed that PKS supports the administration of\nPresident Prabowo Subianto so that it can carry out the people\u2019s mandate\nfully and successfully until 2029.<\/p>\n
According to him, all elements of the nation should currently give\nPresident Prabowo room to work on resolving the nation\u2019s various\nproblems, improving public welfare, strengthening the national economy,\nand implementing government programmes that have become the people\u2019s\nmandate.<\/p>\n
\u2018The decision of the PKS Syuro Council Deliberation supports\nPresident Prabowo to successfully lead Indonesia until 2029. The\ngovernment must be given the opportunity to work. It should not be\ndisturbed by political discourse about accelerating power,\u2019 said\nPipin.<\/p>\n
He added that this support does not mean PKS has lost its critical\nstance. The government must still be monitored so that policies run in\naccordance with the interests of the people and the constitution.<\/p>\n
\u2018Supporting the government does not mean letting the government\noperate without control. We will remain critical and constructive and\nserve as a conduit for the aspirations of the people. But at the same\ntime, we reject any discourse that has the potential to disrupt\ngovernment stability and democracy,\u2019 he explained.<\/p>\n
Pipin reminded all political elites to be more responsible in making\nstatements to the public. \u2018The people need certainty, not provocation.\nThe people want the government to work, the economy to grow, jobs to be\ncreated, and welfare to increase.
