        "content": "<p>PKB turns Surabaya green<\/p>\n<p>SURABAYA: The National Awakening Party (PKB) concluded its<br>\ncampaign sessions here on Monday by turning the capital of East<br>\nJava into a sea of green with thousands of supporters roaming the<br>\nstreets on all sorts of vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy traffic jams resulted from the convoy, which the PKB<br>\nheld in defiance of the Surabaya Elections Supervisory<br>\nCommittee's warning. The party also held gatherings featuring<br>\nparty leaders Said Aqiel Siradj and Chofifah Indar Parawangsa and<br>\nmusician Franky Sahilatua, among others.<\/p>\n<p>In his speech at the campaign venue on Jl. Demak, Said, who is<br>\nalso secretary of Indonesia's largest Muslim organization<br>\nNahdlatul Ulama (NU), called on party supporters to maintain<br>\nnational unity.<\/p>\n<p>He said if PKB wins the elections, national development will<br>\nbe launched based on morality and professionalism.<\/p>\n<p>Also campaigning on Monday was the Justice Party, whose<br>\nactivists held various charitable activities at 25 different<br>\nlocations. The programs included stalls selling cheap staple<br>\nfood, free medical services, and hand-outs of second-hand<br>\nclothes, in Rungkut area, South Surabaya, and Margomulyo, West<br>\nSurabaya. The two areas are industrial estates.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Imam Utomo said he was thankful because campaigning<br>\nso far had proceeded peacefully. \"There have been minor<br>\nviolations of campaign rules, but nothing of significance such as<br>\nwhat happened in Central Java,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Imam was responding to a remark by chairman of the East Java<br>\nchapter of Nahdlatul Ulama, K.H. Hasyim Muzadi, that 25<br>\nprovocateurs from Jakarta had recently entered Surabaya.<\/p>\n<p>Hasyim said the provocateurs were seeking to create unrest as<br>\nhe said they had done in East Timor, West Kalimantan, Maluku and<br>\nPekalongan in Central Java.
