Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Board of the\nNational Awakening Party (PKB) views the enactment of the Domestic\nWorkers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT) as a strategic step in strengthening\nlegal protection for household workers. Chair of the Foreign Affairs and\nInternational Cooperation of the PKB Central Board, Luluk Nur Hamidah,\nconsiders the approval of this regulation as an important milestone in\naddressing the imbalance in protection for domestic workers who have\nlong lacked specific legal coverage. \u201cThe enactment of the RUU PPRT into\nlaw is an important milestone in the history of the struggle for social\njustice in Indonesia,\u201d said Luluk in a written statement in Jakarta on\nTuesday. She emphasised that the presence of this law demonstrates the\nstate\u2019s role in providing recognition, protection, and legal certainty\nfor more than five million household workers who have worked in the\ndomestic sector with high vulnerability. \u201cThis law is not merely a\nlabour regulation, but a representation of the state\u2019s commitment to\nhumanitarian values, justice, and respect for human dignity,\u201d she\nstated. In addition, the regulation opens access for household workers\nto social security as well as mechanisms for reporting rights\nviolations. Luluk highlighted that household workers, who are mostly\nwomen, have long been in a vulnerable position against violence,\ndiscrimination, and inhumane working practices due to minimal\nsupervision in the domestic sector. \u201cThe enactment of the PPRT Law\nreaffirms that domestic work is dignified work that deserves to be\nappreciated and protected. The state must no longer ignore inhumane\nworking practices in the domestic sphere,\u201d she said. Nevertheless, she\nreminded that the future challenge lies in implementation, including the\npreparation of derivative regulations, strengthening supervision, and\npublic education. \u201cThe enactment of this law is not the end, but the\nbeginning of the responsibility to ensure effective implementation,\u201d she\nstated. She also emphasised the importance of changing society\u2019s\nperspective in viewing domestic work relations to be based on justice\nand equality. \u201cDomestic work relations must be built on the basis of\nrespect and equality, not exploitative power relations,\u201d she said. \u201cThe\nenactment of the PPRT Law is proof that the long struggle has not been\nin vain,\u201d she added.
