PKB accept Assembly special session<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The National Awakening Party (PKB), the
\nstrongest supporter of embattled President Abdurrahman Wahid said
\nit would accept the possibility of a special session of the
\nPeople's Consultative Assembly as the next step in the memorandum
\nprocess currently being pursued by the legislature.<\/p>\n
PKB Chairman Matori Abdul Djalil said he would accept the
\npossibility of such a special session if it was necessary.<\/p>\n
\"We acknowledge the special session because our party took
\npart in the decision-making process to issue the first and second
\nmemorandum at the House of Representatives,\" Matori said late on
\nThursday after receiving leaders of the 10 House factions at his
\nofficial residence in South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\"PKB is committed to follow the Constitution and will receive
\nthe results of the meeting sincerely,\" he remarked, referring to
\na Wednesday meeting of House faction leaders.<\/p>\n
He underlined that the country should learn to deal with the
\npolitical crisis through the constitutional process and to accept
\ndifferent opinions.<\/p>\n
\"By showing such commitment, the country should not have to
\nworry anymore because all political powers have the same
\ncommitment to go through a constitutional and peaceful process to
\nend the current crisis,\" Matori said.<\/p>\n
Leaders of the 10-factions at the House started to meet major
\npolitical party leaders on Thursday to brief them on the results
\nof the meeting.<\/p>\n
They visited Golkar Party Chairman Akbar Tandjung and the
\nChairman of PKB, Matori Abdul Djalil on Thursday night, and the
\nCrescent Stars Party (PBB) Chairman, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, on
\nFriday.<\/p>\n
\"We are submitting the results of the factions' meeting to the
\nparty chairmen and so far we have received positive responses
\nfrom them,\" the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI
\nPerjuangan) faction secretary, Heri Akhmadi, said on Friday.<\/p>\n
\"We are especially surprised with the positive remarks from
\nPak Matori, when he received us at his home on Thursday evening,\"
\nHeri said.<\/p>\n
PDI Perjuangan, the largest faction at the House hosted the
\nfactions' meeting on Wednesday, which agreed the country needed
\nto pass constitutional procedures at the House to have an
\neffective and acceptable government that would lead the country
\nout of crisis.<\/p>\n
Many said the meeting is to pave the way to ensure a peaceful
\nspecial session of the Assembly that could ask for President
\nAbdurrahman Wahid who has been censured twice by the House.<\/p>\n
Earlier, several top executives of PKB expressed strong
\ncriticism against the Vice President and PDI Perjuangan
\nChairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri saying that she should resign
\nif she wants to engage in the fight for the presidency.<\/p>\n
It was not clear whether Matori's stance also represents other
\nexecutives of the party who have rejected the Assembly special
