        "content": "<p>Pipeline network vital to gas industry growth<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE (Dow Jones): Transmission pipelines to link<br>\nIndonesia's scattered natural gas reserves to potential markets<br>\nare key to the development of the country's vast natural gas<br>\nresources, a senior official with PT Perusahaan Gas Negara said.<\/p>\n<p>But, standing in the way are two major \"problem areas\" -<br>\n\"inadequate standards and insufficient legislation.\" There is<br>\nalso \"no incentive to develop gas supplies in all areas of the<br>\neconomy,\" A. Qoyum Tjandranegara, president-director of the<br>\nstate-owned company, said.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia needs \"a satisfactory and proper gas regulatory<br>\nnetwork\" to encourage increased investment in the sector and<br>\nunite \"all public and private sector forces in one big effort to<br>\ndevelop the gas industry,\" he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Already, Indonesia's energy policy \"gives priority to energy<br>\nefficiency together with a reduction of energy consumption and<br>\ncut in environmental pollution,\" said Tjandranegara.<\/p>\n<p>In line with the policy, the government is promoting the use<br>\nof natural gas in a number of sectors such as power generation,<br>\nfertilizers, steel and iron, he added.<\/p>\n<p>But the policy objectives can only become reality if the<br>\ncountry puts in place an adequate natural gas transmission and<br>\ndistribution network, at the center of which is the \"proposed<br>\nIndonesian Gas Transmission System (IGT),\" Tjandranegara noted.<\/p>\n<p>The IGT will link East Kalimantan, Java, Sumatra, Batam,<br>\nSingapore, Johor and Natuna reserves with the market.<\/p>\n<p>\"Indonesia has many sources of natural gas which (are) more<br>\nthan sufficient to meet the domestic needs,\" the PGN president<br>\nsaid.<\/p>",
