Deputy Mayor of Tangerang Selatan Pilar Saga Ichsan, Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, and the Buddhist Youth Generation (Gemabudhi) poured 10,000 litres of ecoenzyme into the Jaletreng River in South Tangerang to commemorate Gemabudhi's 40th anniversary and restore the polluted waterway, whilst setting a new Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI) for the largest single ecoenzyme dumping. The Environment Minister praised the initiative for combining religious values with environmental conservation, noting that ecoenzyme—an organic liquid derived from fermented fruit and vegetable waste—enriches natural microorganisms in rivers to improve water quality naturally.

Jakarta — Deputy Mayor of Tangerang Selatan (South Tangerang) Pilar
Saga Ichsan, together with Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq and
the Buddhist Youth Generation (Gemabudhi), conducted an ecoenzyme
dumping operation at the Jaletreng River in South Tangerang City on
Sunday, 8 March 2026.

The action was carried out as part of a river environmental
restoration movement, following previous chemical waste pollution,
whilst also marking the 40th anniversary of the founding of Indonesia’s
Buddhist Youth Generation.

Ecoenzyme is an organic liquid produced by fermenting fruit and
vegetable waste mixed with sugar and water. This liquid is known to have
various environmental benefits, including helping to improve river water
quality.

During the event, 10,000 litres of ecoenzyme were poured into the
river from above the Jaletreng River bridge.

The volume of ecoenzyme poured in the action also successfully set a
record with the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI) as the largest
ecoenzyme dumping operation.

Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq expressed appreciation for
Gemabudhi’s initiative, which he regarded as not only celebrating the
organisation’s milestone but also leaving a tangible legacy for the
environment.

“We must appreciate our Gemabudhi friends on their 40th anniversary.
It is not merely about the number of years, but there is a genuine
environmental legacy being presented. Certainly, efforts to restore the
Jaletreng and Cisadane rivers can continue,” he said.

He explained that ecoenzyme can help enrich natural microorganisms in
the river, thereby increasing the ecosystem’s capacity to improve water
quality naturally.

“We believe that the microorganisms in the Jaletreng and Cisadane
rivers can be enriched with additional oxygen and other elements from
this ecoenzyme. Hopefully, this will further increase the capacity of
the river itself,” he added.

According to him, an approach based on religious values is also
highly effective in building public awareness to protect the
environment.

“This religious approach is extraordinarily effective. Imagine with
all their other commitments, the women were able to produce 10,000
litres of ecoenzyme. So faith becomes important in protecting the
environment,” he explained.

He also noted that efforts to protect the environment are
increasingly supported by various parties, including through religious
edicts relating to prohibitions against indiscriminate littering.

Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor of Tangerang Selatan, Pilar Saga Ichsan,
expressed appreciation for Gemabudhi’s initiative, which contributes to
environmental preservation in the South Tangerang region.

According to Pilar, collaboration between government, community, and
religious organisations is a crucial key to maintaining environmental
sustainability.

“The South Tangerang City Government greatly appreciates Gemabudhi’s
initiative alongside the Environment Ministry and Religion Ministry in
taking concrete action to protect the environment. This movement
demonstrates that concern for rivers can become a shared movement across
communities and religions,” he said.

He stressed that river restoration efforts cannot be undertaken by
government alone, but require active participation from the
community.

“This is an example that protecting rivers is a shared
responsibility. We hope that movements like this can continue and
inspire other communities to help maintain cleanliness and environmental
preservation in South Tangerang City,” he concluded.
",
