        "content": "<p>JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai has\nemphasised that the government cannot be directed to determine the\ncourse of the legal process in the acid attack case against KontraS\nactivist Andrie Yunus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe executive cannot regulate or direct the judicial process\nanywhere; it cannot. We can only state that this is unfair. That is\nsufficient for the government,\u201d Pigai said during a working meeting with\nCommission XIII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Tuesday\n(7\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Pigai stressed that Indonesia\u2019s state system upholds the principle of\nseparation of powers among the executive, legislative, and judicial\nbranches. Therefore, the government must not intervene in ongoing legal\nprocesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot be led to determine the punishment of someone in the\njudicial context, because a true state must not interfere in the\njudicial process,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to the rules, the legal process is currently underway in\nthe military court,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, Pigai stated that the government has demonstrated a\nfirm stance on the acid attack case afflicting the activist from the\noutset.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that attention to this case has come from various parties,\nincluding the DPR, political parties, and the President.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the first time in the history of the Republic of Indonesia\nthat a case faced by an activist has immediately garnered the attention\nof the Republic of Indonesia\u2019s government,\u201d Pigai said.<\/p>\n<p>However, he acknowledged that public scrutiny of the case arises due\nto doubts about the professionalism of the judicial process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a minister, I also request that if possible, trial by the mob and\ntrial by the press are not good. Legal processes due to public and press\npressure are sometimes not beneficial,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe current momentum is sometimes needed, because many doubt whether\nprofessionalism in the judicial process still exists in this case,\u201d he\ncontinued.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, Pigai assured that the government is committed to\nprotecting all citizens without regard to political background.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not doubt the Ministry of Human Rights or the government\nregarding injustices faced by anyone in the Republic of Indonesia,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>",
