Pickpockets prey on Japanese<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Pickpockets and strangers asking for donations
\nat homes are one of the most common problems faced by Japanese
\nbusinessmen in the city, says a police spokesman.<\/p>\n
In a meeting with high-ranking officials of the national
\npolice over the weekend, 170 Japanese businessmen expressed the
\nhope that the police seriously deal with the problem, national
\npolice spokesman, Brig. Gen. IK Ratta, said yesterday.<\/p>\n
All the businessmen live in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Some participants said pickpockets often preyed on Japanese at
\nBlok M Plaza shopping center, said Ratta.<\/p>\n
The two-star general quoted another foreign businessman as
\nsaying that they also often face the dilemma of having regular
\nvisits from strangers asking for donations.<\/p>\n
Ratta said that the police do not differentiate between people
\nin their services. Therefore, the police are heedful of the
\nJapanese complaints.<\/p>\n
Ratta said that no one is allowed to ask for donations from
\ndoor to door unless he or she holds official permission from the
\nneighborhood chief.<\/p>\n
During the meeting at the President Hotel, the national police
\nchief was represented by deputy for operational affairs Maj. Gen.
