Philippine steel mill<\/p>\n
MANILA (AFP): Philippine President Fidel Ramos and visiting
\nSingapore Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong announced yesterday
\nagreements on the building of a Philippine steel mill and a
\npolytechnic university.<\/p>\n
Under one deal, Steelasia, a joint venture between Singaporean
\nand Philippine businesses, is to build a steel rolling mill on a
\nformer garbage site, now developed into an industrial site, in
\nManila.<\/p>\n
The steel mill is due to be in operation by next year although
\nthe cost of the project was not given. Steelasia, an affiliate of
\nNatsteel of Singapore, already has one rolling mill just outside
\nManila.<\/p>\n
Singapore-based Temasek Polytechnic also agreed to set up a 3.
\n4-million-dollar industrial training institute in the former US
\nClark airbase in the Philippines, now being converted into an
\nindustrial zone.<\/p>\n
The Temasek-Clark Polytechnic is to provide training for
\nskilled workers in both Singapore and the Philippines, but
\nparticularly for industries relocating to Clark.<\/p>",
