Philippine corruption and foreign investment<\/p>\n
The latest such survey was done by the Political and Economic
\nRisk Consultancy (PERC) in 12 Asian economies. And again,
\nSingapore and Hong Kong got the highest ratings as far as
\nfighting corruption is concerned. India, China, Indonesia and
\nVietnam were seen to be making headway in fighting corruption.
\nAnd the Philippines and Thailand were seen to have a worsening
\ncorruption.<\/p>\n
Most disturbing of all, for us, is that PERC says investors
\nare willing to overlook Thailand's corruption but not that of the
\nPhilippines.<\/p>\n
The question is, can our government be objective enough to
\nrealize the reasons for this? And can other entities, like
\npolitical parties and those involved in labor organizing, take a
\nlong hard look at the conditions that foster continued investment
\nin Thailand while discouraging investments here?
