PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN), Pertamina's gas subholding, plans to tap the stranded Sengeti field to bolster domestic gas supply. The project is expected to add 5 MMSCFD of gas by Q4 2028, supporting industrial customers and power plants. The initiative aims to enhance national energy security and optimise previously uneconomical resources.

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - As Pertamina’s gas subholding, PT
Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN) plans to bring in additional
natural gas supply by utilising stranded gas, particularly in the
Sengeti Field. This step is a concrete effort by PGN to provide energy
solutions to maintain national energy security.

Leveraging its capabilities and integrated gas infrastructure, PGN is
taking a role in utilising gas sources from fields previously deemed
uneconomical (stranded gas). In this context, PGN bridges existing
challenges by integrating the supply potential from the Sengeti Field
into PGN’s natural gas distribution network.

The supply potential from the Sengeti Field is approximately 5
MMSCFD. This additional supply is projected to begin flowing as early as
Q4 2028, to meet the energy needs of industrial customers and power
plants.

Ultimately, this breakthrough is expected to contribute to state
revenue, support the government in gas field development, and ensure the
security of sustainable natural gas supply for domestic needs.

“Utilising stranded gas is one of PGN’s strategies to provide natural
gas supply to all domestic customers amidst challenges. Gas from the
Sengeti Field will add to the pipeline gas supply. PGN ensures the
readiness of infrastructure and commercial aspects in accordance with
applicable standards and regulations,” said PGN Corporate Secretary
Fajriyah Usman in a statement on Monday (22/6/2026).

She stated that utilising gas from the Sengeti Field also adds value
for the company, including through the development of gas processing
business at the field.

PGN’s achievement in utilising gas from the Sengeti Field is expected
to have a positive domino effect for all stakeholders. The utilisation
of gas from fields previously deemed unattractive is hoped to support
the government’s target of increasing natural gas lifting while spurring
investment attractiveness and exploration.

“PGN is committed to obtaining multi-source natural gas to maintain
supply reliability while continuing to optimise domestic resources. The
Sengeti Field is a manifestation of synergistic collaboration with
support from the government and all other stakeholders to provide
benefits for the Indonesian people,” she concluded.
",
