Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN),\ntogether with the Cilegon Regency Government in Banten and communities\nin the company\u2019s operational areas, is building a plastic waste\nrecycling ecosystem to provide added value for local residents.<\/p>\n
Through the Rumah Hijau Nusantara programme, the initiative is\nexpected not only to increase waste processing capacity, particularly\nfor plastic waste, but also to prepare a market for recycled products in\norder to create sustainable economic benefits.<\/p>\n
PGN\u2019s CSR Division Head, Krisdyan Widagdo Adhi, said in Jakarta on\nThursday that the programme is a continuation of various PGN initiatives\nin building a circular economy-based waste management ecosystem.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough this programme, we want to show that waste is no longer\nviewed as refuse, but rather as a resource with economic value when\nmanaged properly. This initiative is also part of the company\u2019s\ncommitment to promoting a community-based circular economy,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The programme is being carried out in collaboration with the Cilegon\nCity Government, Kertabumi Recycling Centre, National Geographic\nIndonesia, and the Al-Bustaniyah Waste Bank in Cilegon to strengthen the\nwaste management value chain, from processing through to product\nmarketing.<\/p>\n
As a form of support, he said, the company handed over a shredder\nmachine, an extruder machine, a cold press, a scroll and table saw, and\nan oven to the Al-Bustaniyah Waste Bank, which is expected to increase\nproduction capacity, improve product quality, and expand business\nopportunities based on the circular economy.<\/p>\n
Over the past two months, the Rumah Hijau Nusantara programme has\nsuccessfully processed 871 kilogrammes of plastic waste into various\nvalue-added products, such as furniture, tissue holders, key chains,\nprayer beads, and other recycled goods.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe success of waste management is determined by the creation of an\necosystem capable of sustaining the community\u2019s economic activities,\u201d\nsaid Krisdyan.<\/p>\n
Krisdyan hopes the programme will not stop at the provision of waste\nprocessing facilities, but will be able to create an ecosystem with a\nmultiplier effect for improving community welfare.<\/p>\n
\u201cProducts made by the Al-Bustaniyah Waste Bank are expected to be\nutilised, including by PGN itself, so that an economic circulation is\ncreated that provides tangible benefits for the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Going forward, PGN, through the Rumah Hijau Nusantara programme, will\nalso act as a connector for offtakers for some of the products processed\nby the Al-Bustaniyah Waste Bank, through cooperation in MSME mentoring\nprogrammes and wider market commercialisation.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Head of the Cilegon City Environment Office, Sabri\nMalyudin, said that the challenge of waste management lies not only in\nthe provision of facilities, but also in fostering a culture of\nenvironmental awareness.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn waste management, the development of the circular economy must be\naccompanied by strengthening downstream activities so that products made\nfrom processed waste have a sustainable market,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to him, what needs to be strengthened going forward is the\ndownstream aspect, which is why products made from processed waste must\nhave a market so they provide added value for the community.<\/p>\n
He sees an opportunity for collaboration with the Cooperatives Office\nto expand the marketing of products, including through various regional\nexhibitions and events.<\/p>\n
