        "content": "<p>2026 marks 100 years of geothermal energy development in Indonesia,\nwhich began with the Kamojang Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) in 1926. As\nthe country with the largest geothermal potential in the world, reaching\nup to 24,000 Megawatts (MW), Indonesia is described by PT Pertamina\nGeothermal Energy Tbk President Director Ahmad Yani as a \u2018centre of\nexcellence\u2019 for geothermal. Currently, installed PLTP capacity has only\nreached 2.7 Gigawatts, with a target of reaching 5.2 GW by 2034, so the\nopportunity for geothermal industry development is very large to\nstrengthen energy security and sovereignty while supporting the\nacceleration of the energy transition.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia has only utilised 11% of its geothermal potential, so in an\neffort to accelerate PLTP development, it is necessary to create a\ngeothermal business climate that is \u2018feasible\u2019 and \u2018bankable\u2019.\nTherefore, PGE continues to strive to increase geothermal capacity with\na target of 1 GW capacity in 2028, making it the largest in Indonesia,\nand by 2034 targeting a capacity of 1.8 GW, making it the largest in the\nworld.<\/p>\n<p>PGE also targets geothermal projects to have a positive impact on\ncommunities through job absorption and growing the surrounding economy.\nPGE is also exploring new business opportunities from the geothermal\nsupply chain, one of which is through green hydrogen projects.<\/p>",
