        "content": "<p>Pertamina will conduct oil and natural gas drilling at 13 sites in\nSamboja Subdistrict, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan. The\nHead of the Special Task Force for the Implementation of Upstream Oil\nand Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), Djoko Siswanto, stated that the\noil wells are estimated to contain reserves of 1 million barrels of oil\nand 11.64 billion cubic feet of gas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are still identifying if there are also old wells for the\ncommunity there; further research is ongoing in the field,\u201d he said\nduring a press conference at the Ministry of Transmigration in Jakarta\non Monday, 4 May 2026.<\/p>\n<p>All oil well locations are known to be within the transmigration\narea. Djoko said the drilling will be carried out by PT Pertamina Hulu\nSanga Sanga\u2014a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia\u2014near unused\nland.<\/p>\n<p>According to Djoko, access roads to the well sites can also be used\nfor the community\u2019s daily activities to transport agricultural and\nplantation produce. The results from processing the oil and gas are\nprioritised to meet community needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCoincidentally, it will be carried out soon, namely next month we\nwill start drilling,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Djoko stated that the exploration and drilling plan has been\ndiscussed with the Ministry of Transmigration. Operations will be\nconducted on a win-win solution principle, including compensation for\naffected community land.<\/p>\n<p>The President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia Regional\nKalimantan, Sunaryanto, said the project investment is worth Rp 1.1\ntrillion. \u201cSo in total, it will generate revenue for us of around Rp 2.5\ntrillion,\u201d he said on the same occasion.<\/p>\n<p>Transmigration Minister Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara said\nthe project will become a new economic growth centre in the oil and\nnatural gas sector. Pertamina, as the sole investor, will create\nmultiplier effects for the surrounding community.<\/p>\n<p>According to Iftitah, there are two options for utilising the Land\nManagement Rights (HPL) in the Samboja transmigration area discussed\ntoday with SKK Migas and Pertamina. First, utilisation of HPL with usage\nrights. Second, release of transmigration HPL.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe agreed earlier that the chosen option is the utilisation of\ntransmigration HPL,\u201d Iftitah stated.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement was immediately signed through a memorandum of\nunderstanding between the Ministry of Transmigration and SKK Migas. The\nhope from this project is to improve community welfare.<\/p>",
