Members of the Islamic Students Association (HMI) breached the gates\nof the PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional IV Sulawesi office in Makassar\nduring a demonstration concerning fuel scarcity.<\/p>\n
Representing Pertamina, Mardian, the Retail Sales Manager for\nPertamina Regional Sulawesi, met with the protesters directly. He urged\nthe public to remain calm and cautioned against believing unverified\ninformation regarding the status of fuel distribution.<\/p>\n
According to Mardian, Pertamina is continuously coordinating with\nvarious parties and providing updates on fuel distribution conditions to\nall relevant stakeholders. \u201cWe have already communicated our concerns to\nthe policy-making authorities, and some of our requests have been\ngranted,\u201d Mardly stated before the students on Monday (14\/9).<\/p>\n
Mardian noted that the company is evaluating the odd-even policy by\nmonitoring fuel queues at petrol stations in Makassar. If the situation\nis deemed safe and controlled, the restrictions will be lifted entirely.\n\u201cWe are monitoring this together. If it is safe, everything will be\nlifted,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The odd-even policy remains in effect based on a circular letter\nuntil 20 September 2026. Pertamina will conduct periodic evaluations to\ndetermine subsequent steps. \u201cWe will review it over the next three days.\nWe are observing together; if there is feedback or specific incidents,\nwe will follow up,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
He added that Pertamina and relevant authorities will continue to\nmonitor queues at petrol stations, ensuring that any issues found in the\nfield are addressed. \u201cWe act like firefighters; wherever an incident\noccurs, we resolve it,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
During the protest, which involved both students and labourers, one\ndemonstrator sustained a head injury, allegedly caused by a blow from a\nbaton used by security personnel. The breach occurred when HMI members\nsurged into the Pertamina office courtyard on Monday afternoon. Security\nforces responded by attempting to push the crowd back, during which an\nHMI member was reportedly struck.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe only reached the gate, but suddenly at the gate, security\npersonnel struck one of our members, resulting in an injury,\u201d said Sarah\nAgussalim, Chairperson of HMI Makassar Branch.<\/p>\n
Sarah explained that the HMI protest aimed to demand accountability\nfrom PT Pertamina Patra Niaga regarding the fuel scarcity that has\ncaused long queues in Makassar for several days.
