In commemoration of World Environment Day 2026, PT Pertamina\n(Persero) has planted 1,000 tree seedlings and strengthened\ncommunity-based waste management innovations at the TPS3R facility in\nGuwosari Village, Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. This\nkick-off activity was accompanied by simultaneous tree planting across\nthe Pertamina Group\u2019s operational areas, including the Plaju Refinery\nand Elnusa units.<\/p>\n
PT Pertamina (Persero) Corporate Secretary, Arya Dwi Paramita, stated\nthat this step is part of Pertamina\u2019s efforts to support climate change\nmitigation while addressing waste management challenges, which remain a\nmajor environmental issue in Indonesia. This aligns with the World\nEnvironment Day theme, \u2018Time to Act for Climate.\u2019<\/p>\n
In addition to tree planting, Pertamina provided Rp150 million in\nassistance for the Go-Sari Edupark Programme. This funding is intended\nto support the development of the Go-Sari waste collection application,\nbiochar innovation, poultry farming, and the \u2018Rewulu Reborn\u2019 programme,\nwhich processes fuel tanker seal waste into economically valuable\nproducts.<\/p>\n
Arya noted that TPS3R Guwosari was selected as the kick-off location\nbecause it is managed by the Rewulu Fuel Terminal, an operational area\nof Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Central Java. This area serves as a\nprime example of collaboration between corporations, communities, and\nacademics in providing innovative solutions to waste problems.<\/p>\n
\u2018World Environment Day serves as a momentum for Pertamina to continue\nstrengthening real action in environmental preservation. We chose TPS3R\nGuwosari as the starting point because it demonstrates integrated waste\nmanagement that provides tangible economic and social benefits to the\ncommunity,\u2019 Arya said in a statement on Sunday (7\/6\/2026).<\/p>\n
Pertamina\u2019s World Environment Day commemorations will continue on 10\nJune 2026, through a coastal waste management programme utilising a\ntrash skimmer innovation, a collaboration between Pertamina and the\nSepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS).<\/p>\n
Nationally, by 2026, the Pertamina Group has implemented 151\nenvironmental programmes focused on waste management and the circular\neconomy. These programmes have successfully processed approximately\n951,023 tonnes of waste per year, benefiting 68,788 recipients and\ncreating sustainable economic impacts for the community.<\/p>\n
Arya emphasised that environmental innovation is not only pursued\nthrough community empowerment but also integrated into company\noperations through the use of technology and increasingly eco-friendly\nbusiness practices. \u2018Sustainability is a vital part of Pertamina\u2019s\nbusiness strategy. Therefore, we continue to drive various innovations,\nboth within the community and our operational processes, to reduce\nenvironmental impact while supporting Indonesia\u2019s energy transition and\nsustainable development targets,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n
The Head of Guwosari Village, Masduki, explained that the integrated\nwaste management initiative has assisted 1,500 households in their waste\nissues. This innovation also provides income for more than 27 residents,\nincluding the elderly, who work in various roles such as waste\ncollection, sorting, pressing, composting, and poultry maintenance.<\/p>\n
\u2018We encourage residents to sort waste at home; the better the\nsorting, the lower the processing costs, or even zero cost. Through\nthese activities, supporting workers can earn salaries of around 2 to 3\nmillion rupiah,\u2019 Masduki explained.<\/p>\n
