PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has highlighted the critical role of the Ship-to-Ship (STS) Kalbut infrastructure in Situbondo, East Java, as the backbone of national LPG distribution, enhancing Indonesia's energy security. The facility, operational since 1995, facilitates the transfer of LPG from large tankers to smaller vessels, supplying regions across Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi with capacities ranging from 1,700 to 10,000 metric tons. Recent operations, including a 44,839 metric ton cargo shipment on 8 April 2026, underscore its importance in maintaining steady supplies to support economic growth and public needs.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has stated that the
existence of the Ship-to-Ship (STS) Kalbut infrastructure in Situbondo,
East Java, serves as the lifeline of LPG distribution to strengthen
national energy resilience. Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra
Niaga, Roberth MV Dumatubun, in a statement from Jakarta on Sunday,
affirmed the company’s commitment to maintaining national energy
resilience through reliable, safe, and equitable provision and
distribution of energy across Indonesia. As a downstream subholding,
Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to bolster infrastructure and ensure the
sustainability of energy supplies, particularly LPG, to meet the needs
of communities throughout the archipelago. He emphasised that the
reliability of energy distribution to meet public needs is the company’s
top priority. “We are committed to ensuring that national LPG supplies
continue to be channelled and distributed equitably. Through support
from infrastructure such as STS Kalbut, Pertamina Patra Niaga ensures
that energy distribution can optimally reach all regions of Indonesia,
as part of efforts to support national energy resilience,” said Roberth.
In its implementation, Pertamina Patra Niaga strengthens national LPG
distribution through the optimisation of integrated facilities, from the
availability of vessel fleets for sea distribution, skid tanks for land
distribution, to enhanced supervision at SPPBE, agents, and official
depots. These steps are taken to ensure that stock availability remains
maintained and distribution runs effectively and equitably across all
regions of Indonesia. Roberth continued that these efforts are supported
by the presence of the STS Kalbut mothership, which serves as the main
LPG transfer service centre in the waters of Kalbut Bay, Situbondo. This
strategic facility becomes a key distribution node in the process of
unloading LPG from mother tankers to smaller vessels, which are then
channelled to various regions. The STS Kalbut, which has been
operational since 1995 with a sea area of 3.92 km², is part of the
Tanjungwangi Fuel Terminal and plays a vital role in maintaining the
smooth flow of national energy distribution. Area Manager for
Communication, Relations, and CSR in Jatimbalinus, Ahad Rahedi, stated
that STS Kalbut not only supports LPG distribution in East Java but also
reaches wider areas. “The existence of STS Kalbut is the lifeline of
Indonesia’s energy, serving as the backbone of LPG supply. Not only East
Java, but it also covers Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Central Java, Kalimantan,
and Sulawesi,” he said. In the Jatimbalinus region, STS Kalbut supports
distribution to the Surabaya LPG Terminal, Tanjungwangi LPG Terminal,
Manggis LPG Terminal, Ampenan LPG Terminal, and Bima LPG Terminal with
varying regular supply capacities, from 1,700 metric tons to 10,000
metric tons. In line with the increasing LPG demand in East Java, on 8
April 2026, a cargo vessel with a load of 44,839 metric tons docked at
STS Kalbut, which was subsequently distributed to various terminals,
including Gresik with a load of 10,000 metric tons, plus a supply from
the TPPI refinery of 1,000 metric tons. Then, Surabaya with a load of
8,000 metric tons, which is currently in the unloading process, and
Banyuwangi with a load of 2,500 metric tons. “Through the optimisation
of infrastructure and strengthening of the distribution system,
Pertamina Patra Niaga ensures that LPG availability remains maintained
to support community activities and national economic growth,” said
Roberth.
",
