Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) officially\nlaunched the Bioethanol Development Center in Tegineneng, Pesawaran\nRegency, Lampung, on Monday (14\/09\/2026). This facility has been\ndeveloped as a platform for the development and testing of pilot-scale\nbioethanol, covering feedstock development, cultivation, technology\ntesting, and the validation of bioethanol production processes.<\/p>\n
The launch event was attended by various stakeholders from the\ngovernment, Pertamina, industry, academia, and strategic partners.\nNotable attendees included the Deputy Minister of Investment and\nDownstreaming\/Deputy Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM)\nTodotua Pasaribu, President Commissioner of PT Pertamina (Persio)\nMochamad Iriawan, Director of Risk Management of PT Pertamina (Persio)\nAhmad Siddik Badruddin, President Director of Pertamina NRE John Anis,\nGovernor of Lampung Province Rahmat Mirzani Djausal, as well as\nPresident Director of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN)\nNandi Julyanto and President Director of Toyota Tsusho Indonesia (TTI)\nToru Murakami.<\/p>\n
John Anis, President Director of Pertamina NRE, explained that the\nobjective of the Bioethanol Development Center is to prioritise a\nmulti-feedstock and multi-generation technology approach. This involves\nutilising diverse potential raw materials and both first-generation (1G)\nand second-generation (2G) bioethanol production technologies. This\napproach is expected to optimise local resource potential while\nsupporting the development of the national bioethanol ecosystem.<\/p>\n
The launch momentum was also marked by the signing of two memoranda\nof understanding. The first is a Joint Agreement between Pertamina NRE\nand the Lampung Provincial Government for the development of\nagribusiness, energy security, and food security in Lampung Province.\nThe second is a Memorandum of Understanding between Pertamina NRE,\nTMMIN, TTI, and the Research Association of Biomass Innovation for Next\nGeneration Automobile Fuels (raBit) to explore the technical and\ncommercial potential of sustainable bioethanol production and\nutilisation in Indonesia, including feasibility studies, technology\ndevelopment, and the exchange of knowledge and experience.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming\/Deputy Head of\nthe Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Todotua Pasaribu, stated that\nbioethanol development can create an ecosystem that unites agriculture,\nindustry, technology, investment, and society within a single renewable\nenergy-based economic chain.<\/p>\n
