Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) signed a\nmemorandum of understanding (MoU) with the US Grains & BioProducts\nCouncil (USGBC) on Friday, 27 March 2026.<\/p>\n
This step aims to strengthen collaboration on bioethanol development\nin Indonesia through joint studies, knowledge exchange, and capacity\nenhancement.<\/p>\n
The US Grains & BioProducts Council (USGBC) is an international\nnon-profit organisation representing producers and stakeholders in the\ngrain and agriculture-based bioproducts industry.<\/p>\n
USGBC focuses on market development through education, advocacy, and\nfacilitating cooperation and knowledge exchange, including providing\ntechnical assistance, training, and promoting best practices to support\nthe sustainable utilisation of bio-based products.<\/p>\n
This collaboration emphasises strengthening capabilities through\nknowledge exchange, capacity building, and adoption of global best\npractices to support the development of the national bioethanol\necosystem, including its contribution to the potential implementation of\nE10 ethanol-blended fuel in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PT Pertamina (Persero), Oki Muraza,\nemphasised the importance of this collaboration as part of efforts to\nbolster national capabilities through global learning. Bioethanol, he\nsaid, represents the intersection of energy security and sustainability\nfor Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough this partnership, we aim to learn more deeply from\ninternational experiences and best practices, particularly in developing\nthe bioethanol ecosystem, including feedstock diversification,\nregulatory frameworks, and the application of domestic ethanol-blended\nfuels,\u201d Oki stated in a press release on Friday, 3 April 2026.<\/p>\n
Within the scope of the collaboration, both parties will conduct\njoint explorations and studies on strengthening the bioethanol supply\nchain and infrastructure, including technical, commercial, and\nregulatory readiness aspects.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the collaboration includes conducting technical\ntraining, expert exchanges, and organising discussion forums and\nworkshops to share global best practices.<\/p>\n
Chief Executive Officer of Pertamina NRE, John Anis, stated that this\npartnership aligns with the company\u2019s commitment to accelerating the\nenergy transition through strategic knowledge-based collaborations.<\/p>\n
Pertamina NRE views this collaboration as a platform to enhance\ntechnical and institutional capabilities through structured knowledge\nexchange.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy prioritising joint studies, training, and expertise exchanges, we\nare optimistic about accelerating the development of an adaptive and\nsustainable bioethanol ecosystem in Indonesia,\u201d John remarked.<\/p>\n
This partnership also promotes domestic capacity development through\ntechnology adoption, operational optimisation, and improved\nunderstanding of bioethanol production management and feedstock\ndiversification.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, both parties will facilitate dialogue and\nknowledge exchange on market development, sustainability frameworks, and\npublic communication strategies to support the implementation of\nethanol-blended fuels.<\/p>\n
Chairman of USGBC, Mark Wilson, emphasised that this partnership\nfocuses on concrete actions through knowledge exchange and system\nreadiness strengthening. Therefore, this MoU is not merely a formal\nagreement but an implementation platform.<\/p>\n
