Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) and the\nIndonesian Renewable Energy Society (METI) are collaborating in an\neffort to accelerate the energy transition down to the regional\nlevel.<\/p>\n
Norman Ginting, Director of Projects and Operations at Pertamina NRE\nand Chairperson of METI, stated that strengthening the renewable energy\necosystem in the regions is a crucial part of expanding the utilisation\nof clean energy while reinforcing national energy security.<\/p>\n
\u201cCollaboration like this needs to be continuously strengthened so\nthat renewable energy is not only a source of clean energy but can also\nbecome an economic driver and open new opportunities for the regions,\u201d\nNorman said in a statement on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
He cited North Sulawesi as a strategic region that has demonstrated\nachievements in renewable energy utilisation. The province has recorded\na new and renewable energy mix reaching 32 per cent, predominantly\nsourced from geothermal energy. Norman noted that around 24 per cent of\nNorth Sulawesi\u2019s electricity needs are already supplied by geothermal\npower.<\/p>\n
\u201cNorth Sulawesi shows that renewable energy potential can become a\nregional strength while also being part of the effort to strengthen\nnational energy security,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The province possesses diverse renewable energy potential, ranging\nfrom solar, wind, ocean, and bioenergy to geothermal. Norman emphasised\nthat with this substantial potential, North Sulawesi can serve as an\nexample of how regions can play an active role in driving the energy\ntransition.<\/p>\n
He stressed that developing renewable energy requires cross-sector\ncollaboration involving the government, business players, academics,\ncommunities, and the younger generation. In this context, METI\u2019s\nregional branches act as instruments to strengthen the local renewable\nenergy ecosystem through advocacy, policy synchronisation, and by\nserving as a bridge between investors and local partners for project\nrealisation, as well as enhancing human resource capacity in the\nrenewable energy sector.<\/p>\n
North Sulawesi is the first METI regional branch in eastern\nIndonesia. Previously, METI had established a presence in Aceh, North\nSumatra, West Sumatra, Riau Islands, and West Java.<\/p>\n
