Pertamina faces globalization<\/p>\n
It is a public secret that the issue of globalization is being
\ntouted by capitalists who want to expand their markets as they
\ninvest, unopposed, their money either for the short term or the
\nlong term in other countries. Unfortunately, developing
\ncountries, which make up the market for their products, have no
\nchoice but to accept this.<\/p>\n
Pertamina's action to acquisition 1,200 gasoline stations
\nacross this country is an act of deviance that deserves to be
\nsupported. An official at (the state oil company) Pertamina
\nexplained that the company was acquisitioning those gas stations
\nbecause it would never have the chance to grow unless it
\ncontrolled those downstream businesses.<\/p>\n
Experience has shown multinational corporations to be foreign
\nexchange dredging machines. They contribute little to development
\nbut take out a good deal more. Pertamina's example is of great
\nsignificance and deserves to be followed by others. As the
\nproprietors of one of the biggest markets in Asia and one with
\ngood prospects for growth at that, we must have the courage to
\nface the era of globalization with all its consequences. The
\nnation's interests must come first.<\/p>\n
