        "content": "<p>PT Pertamina New &amp; Renewable Energy, together with Toyota Motor\nAsia, officially began a collaboration to develop second-generation (2G)\nbioethanol based on biomass waste in Jakarta on Monday (20\/4\/2026). This\npartnership aims to build a sustainable energy ecosystem through the\nutilisation of various non-food domestic resources.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kompas, this strategic project will employ a\nmulti-feedstock approach by processing palm oil waste, corn, and sorghum\ninto liquid fuel. The initiative is expected to reduce national fuel\nimport figures while optimising the economic value of agricultural\nwaste.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming\/BKPM, Todotua\nPasaribu, stated that this synergy represents a tangible form of\ncollaboration between State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) and global\ninvestors. The government targets for this agreement to promptly proceed\nto the physical construction phase in accordance with the set\nschedule.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe see the collaboration between Pertamina and Toyota as a real\nexample of synergy between BUMN and global investors in building\nIndonesia\u2019s future energy ecosystem,\u201d said Todotua Pasaribu, Deputy\nMinister of Investment and Downstreaming\/BKPM.<\/p>\n<p>CEO of Toyota Motor Asia, Masahiko Maeda, revealed that meetings with\nthe Indonesian government have yielded significant progress. This\nagreement encompasses economic feasibility studies, project structure\nformulation, and the establishment of a comprehensive implementation\ntimeline.<\/p>\n<p>Maeda emphasised that this collaboration has entered a more concrete\nand measurable phase compared to previous exploratory stages. This\nstrategic step is taken to mature the entire investment plan so that the\nproject realisation has a clear direction.<\/p>\n<p>The Indonesian government provides full support through mandatory\nbiofuel blending policies. Based on the national energy roadmap, the\nblending target is set starting from E5 in 2026-2027, increasing to E10\nin 2028-2030, and reaching E20 in the future.<\/p>\n<p>The utilisation of 2G technology is considered crucial because it\nfocuses on non-food raw materials, thus not disrupting food sovereignty.\nThe use of sorghum in this production chain is even seen as adding value\nto national food security overall.<\/p>",
