KOMPAS.com - Pertamina and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN
and East Asia (ERIA) have officially formed a strategic collaboration.
The cooperation is set out in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) titled
‘Research Collaboration and Joint Study on the Development of
Sustainable Energy Transition Pathways’. The signing of the MoU was part
of a series of events at The Indonesian Petroleum Association Convention
and Exhibition (IPA Convex) 2026 at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten, from
Wednesday 20 May 2026 to Friday 22 May 2026. The signing was carried out
by Pertamina’s Director of Strategy, Portfolio, and Business Development
(SPPU) Emma Sri Martini and ERIA Chief Operating Officer Takayuki
Yamanaka. Emma said Pertamina remains committed to supporting government
programmes aimed at achieving national energy independence and
supporting the energy transition. To this end, Pertamina continues to
develop its capabilities by collaborating with various stakeholders,
including think tanks. Emma added that Pertamina currently pursues two
main pillars of its business strategy, namely optimising existing
fossil-based businesses and accelerating the development of low-carbon
businesses. The MoU covers two main pillars of cooperation: policy and
economic analysis in the energy sector, and capacity building and
knowledge exchange. The MoU implementation will be carried out by
Pertamina Energy Institute (PEI) as the strategic think tank within
Pertamina. Emma stated that through the partnership with ERIA, Pertamina
will gain support in the form of research-based policy studies and
comprehensive energy economics analysis. Emma expressed hope that the
collaboration would strengthen Pertamina’s strategic position in the
regional arena amid the continually evolving dynamics of the global
energy transition. ‘By collaborating with a range of stakeholders,
including international think tanks, the capacity of the parties will be
enhanced,’ she said. In the same session, Pertamina Group also signed
several other agreements, including the JSA CCS Ammonia between PT
Pertamina (Persero), PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), Perusahaan Gas
Negara (PGN), and PT Pupuk Indonesia. Then, the HoA CCS Asri Basin
agreement between PHE and Exxon, and the MOU CCS in the Pertamina
Working Area between PT Pertamina (Persero), PHE and ERIA.
