Persib stuns Bangkok Bank<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian league champion Persib got off to a
\nflying start in its the Asian Champion's Cup campaign by stunning
\nhost Bangkok Bank 2-0 in their first round first leg match in
\nBangkok on Saturday.<\/p>\n
It took Persib just 10 minutes to go 1-0 up, with Kekey
\nZakaria netting a fine header. The second was scored by playmaker
\nYusuf Bachtiar five minutes after the break.<\/p>\n
\"Persib is a good team with a solid teamwork,\" Bangkok Bank
\nteam manager Subin Sinchai was quoted by Kompas as saying.<\/p>\n
Playing in a heavily inundated pitch in front of around 3,000
\nThai supporters, the Bandung-based team immediately directed its
\nattacks at Bangkok Bank's core of defense.<\/p>\n
Sutiono played an inspirational role in the first goal. The
\nhard running striker, escaping from the close guard of defender
\nLersan Rak-on, did not waste any time to straightforwardly fed a
\npass to Yusuf who chipped the ball to the waiting Kekey.<\/p>\n
The ball went into the left corner of the goal post, leaving
\ngoalie Wacharapong Somchit lose his foot.<\/p>\n
\"This is my first goal while playing abroad,\" said Kekey, who
\ndedicated the goal to his two-month son.<\/p>\n
Spearheaded by Ronnachai Sayomchai and Kanit Artcharayotin,
\nBangkok Bank tried to retaliate with a relentless attacks from
\nthe left and the right flanks. Even though Bangkok Bank was
\nfortified by its three national booters, Wacharapong Somcit,
\nApichad Thaveechalermdit and Chercahi Suwanang, the attacks it
\nbuilt were left at bay.<\/p>\n
Without elegant midfield Yudi Guntara, Persib renewed charges
\nin the second half. The attacking football paid off.<\/p>\n
Yusuf intercepted the ball from defender Amarit Eangvong.
\nAfter transferring it to Sutiono, he ran toward Wacharapong's
\ngoal post. Sutiono sent the ball back to Yusuf who slammed a
\ndevastating kick that totally sealed Bangkok's fate.<\/p>\n
Around 800 Persib supporters were set ablaze following the
\nwin, chanting a national song Halo-halo Bandung.<\/p>\n
Persib will entertain the Thai league runner-up at the
