Persani names gymnasts for Romania outing<\/p>\n

The Indonesian Gymnastics Association (Persani) identified on
\nWednesday the 10 gymnasts who will travel to Romania for a two-
\nyear training program meant to prepare them for the next
\nSoutheast Asian (SEA) Games.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian gymnasts include M. Tri Saputra, 13, of Riau,
\nMelyusi Adeputra, 17, of Lampung, Pramu Nur Imam, 18, of East
\nJava, and Endriadi, 21, of Jakarta, in the men's artistic
\ncategory; Dewi Prahara, 19, of Riau, Nefi Nurbaeti, 11, of
\nJakarta, and Riri Wulandari, 16, of West Sumatra, in the women's
\nartistic category; Windi Yofilia, 15, of Jambi, Cici Mitasari,
\n18, of Jakarta, and Natalia, 17, of Jakarta, in the women's
\nrhythmic category.<\/p>\n
The gymnasts will depart later this month, accompanied by
\ncoaches Djefri Mutik Butarbutar, Biasworo Adi Suyanto, Yochi
\nRusandi and Yulia Ros.<\/p>\n
\"With the training camp in Romania, we expect the gymnasts to
\ndouble their gold medal collection at the 2005 SEA Games,\"
\nPersani secretary-general Asep Sulaeman said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The next SEA Games, a biennial multievent sporting showcase
\nfeaturing the 11 Southeast Asian nations, will be hosted by the
\nPhilippines. The Indonesian gymnastics squad brought home two
\ngolds at the last SEA Games in Vietnam.<\/p>\n
Gymnastics is not included in the Indonesian Awakens (IA)
\nprogram, which was set up to increase the country's medal haul at
\nthe 2006 Asian Games in Qatar.<\/p>\n
\"For the 2006 Asian Games, it is still hard to compete against
\nmore experienced countries like China and Japan. We will be
\ncontent with bronzes,\" Asep said.<\/p>\n
At the last Asian Games in Busan, South Korea, in 2002,
\nJonathan Sianturi was the only Indonesian gymnast in competition
\nand ended up in fifth place.<\/p>\n
Its two-gold haul at the last SEA Games demonstrated how far
\nbehind Indonesian gymnasts had fallen behind their regional
\nrivals from Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand, all of which took
\nhome more golds.<\/p>\n
Asep said Romania had been chosen for the training program
\nbecause of its status as one of the world's top countries in
\ngymnastics.<\/p>\n
He said traveling to Romania for the program made more sense
\nthan bringing in Romanian coaches to Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\"Our athletes will have the chance to watch, learn and
\npractice with world-class gymnasts from Romania,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Coach Djefri said he had already prepared practice sessions
\nand modules for the 10 gymnasts.<\/p>\n
\"We will discuss our plans with the coaches in Romania to
\ndetermine the final training modules,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"Besides the training in Romania, we also plan to send several
\nof the gymnasts to the Junior Asian Championship in Qatar in
\nFebruary. We also plan to send some to participate in an
\ninternational senior competition in Germany next March, and a
\ncompetition in Romania in April,\" Djefri said.<\/p>",
