Officials emphasised that delivering safe, sustainable housing is a state responsibility for displaced communities awaiting permanent relocation.

PEMERINTAH Kabupaten Agam, Sumatra Barat, continues to refine
strategic steps to accelerate the provision of permanent housing
(huntap) for communities affected by natural disasters. This commitment
was reinforced during a Coordination Meeting on Land Readiness for
Permanent Housing held online on Friday (19/6/2026).

Agam Regent Benni Warlis, accompanied by Regional Secretary Muhammad
Lutfi AR, attended the meeting from the Regent’s Office Hall in Padang
Baru, Lubuk Basung. The meeting involved various ministries, government
agencies, and cross-sectoral institutions from the central to regional
levels to synchronise housing development policies for disaster
survivors.

Discussions focused on crucial aspects that often become obstacles in
the field, including land availability and regulatory hurdles. Regent
Benni Warlis stressed that providing permanent housing is not merely
about physical construction, but represents the state’s responsibility
to ensure safe, decent, and sustainable living spaces for citizens.

“The huntap development process requires strong support and
coordination from all parties. We hope this coordination meeting will
produce concrete steps so that once construction begins, all stages
proceed smoothly according to regulations,” said Benni Warlis in a
statement released on Sunday (21/6/2026).

The Agam Regency Government continues to optimise preparations to
prevent further delays in the realisation of permanent housing. This is
crucial as affected communities are eagerly awaiting permanent homes
that offer greater safety compared to evacuation centres or temporary
shelters. The interactive meeting also served as a platform for relevant
ministries to provide input and perspectives according to their
respective authorities, with the constructive discussion expected to cut
through bureaucratic red tape hindering land provision.
",
