        "content": "<p>TANGERANG \u2014 Several residents in the Periuk Damai housing complex in\nPeriuk, Tangerang City, chose to remain on the second floors of their\nhomes despite their residences being submerged under approximately five\nmetres of floodwaters on Monday, 9 March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Andia S Rahman, head of emergency response and logistics at Tangerang\nCity\u2019s disaster management agency (BPBD), stated that some residents who\nhave not yet evacuated and chosen to remain at home are concerned about\nabandoning their possessions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe continue to conduct outreach and education efforts to encourage\nthem to evacuate to designated shelters,\u201d Andia said when met at the\nlocation on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is typically related to concerns about their property and also\ncomfort factors, as they observe conditions at the evacuation centres.\nHowever, the priority should be safety,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He further noted that evacuation centres have been equipped with\nvarious basic necessities, including healthcare services and security\nfor displaced residents.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, some residents have chosen to remain on the second\nfloors of their homes.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the chairman of neighbourhood association 08 in Periuk\nDamai housing, Heri Bertus, stated that the flooding affecting his area\nrepresented one of the most severe inundations in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 860 residents from 286 households were forced to\nevacuate due to the flooding.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the most critical requirement for evacuees is sanitation\nfacilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe most urgent need right now is toilet facilities, as those in the\nmosque have been submerged and are unusable,\u201d Heri said.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, logistical needs including food and clean water are\nbeing gradually met through government assistance and community efforts\nthat have opened communal kitchens near evacuation sites.<\/p>",
