Perez's planned visit opposed<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The Indonesian Committee for World Muslim Solidarity
\n(KISDI) is against Israeli foreign minister Shimon Perez's
\nplanned visit to Indonesia at the invitation of the youth wing of
\nNahdlatul Ulama (NU).<\/p>\n
"We have sent a note to NU general chairman Hasyim Muzadi,
\nurging him to cancel the invitation," KISDI secretary Adian
\nHusaini said, after delivering a lecture at Al Azhar Mosque in
\nJakarta on Friday.<\/p>\n
As far as many Muslims are concerned, he pointed out, Perez's
\nvisit to Indonesia would hurt their feelings, especially in view
\nof the current strife-torn situation in Palestine.<\/p>\n
Adian was of the opinion that to prevent national
\ndisintegration, it would be better to cancel the invitation to
\nthe Israeli foreign minister.<\/p>\n
Earlier, a statement by general chairman of the NU Youth Front
\nMaksum Zuber was quoted as saying that he had invited Perez to a
\nseminar on NU's vision of culture across the world on March 30,
\n2002, and that Perez had accepted the invitation.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, information and mass media director Wahid Supriyadi
\nwas not very sure that Perez would really come to Indonesia as
\nIsrael and Indonesia still have no diplomatic relations under
\nwhich immigration documents are normally issued. -- Antara<\/p>",
