People flock to Cipto to inspect dismembered body<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Scores of people went to the forensic department
\nof state Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital in Central Jakarta
\non Tuesday to identify the dismembered body parts of a male found
\nat two separate places a day earlier.<\/p>\n
As of last night, the dismembered body was still unidentified
\nbut sources at the hospital and city police said that they were
\ncloser to deciding whether the body was that of Sugantio, 31, a
\nresident of Cikokol, Tangerang, who has been missing since
\nSaturday last week.<\/p>\n
But one of his relatives said he was unsure about the body
\nsince he and other family members needed time to discuss other
\nidentifying marks on Sugantio's body and check whether Sugantio,
\nwho runs a food stall, might still be somewhere.<\/p>\n
The head of the hospital's forensic department, Budi Sampurna,
\nsaid earlier in the afternoon that the dismembered body had an AB
\nblood type.<\/p>\n
\"Although we're able to make a trace through blood tests (on a
\nnumber of people), it's not easy work since around 15 percent of
\nJakartans have that blood type,\" he told reporters packed into
\nthe forensic department.<\/p>\n
According to Budi, the victim was killed before dismembering
\nwith a very sharp tool took place.<\/p>\n
\"But I could not determine how much time lapsed between the
\nmoment the man was killed and the time his body was butchered,\"
\nthe forensic expert said.<\/p>\n
Budi said some parts of victim's body were still missing.<\/p>\n
He, however, refused to disclose the missing parts, saying it
\nwould only cause public anxiety.<\/p>\n
But police and hospital sources said the missing parts
\nincluded flesh and genital parts.<\/p>\n
Budi said the postmortem examination revealed the body had
\nbeen submerged in water before dismembering occurred.<\/p>\n
\"The color of the body had changed from brown to a greenish
\ntinge,\" he said without elaborating.<\/p>\n
Budi speculated the killer was an assertive person.<\/p>\n
\"He (or she) probably has a strong character. He dared to
\nbutcher the dead body,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Budi said he was as yet unable to specify the kind of sharp
\nweapon used by the killer to butcher the body.<\/p>\n
\"It will be up to the police to make public,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Following the postmortem examination, forensic experts at the
\nhospital identified the victim as a male in his 30s (not in his
\n20s as reported earlier), 160 centimeters tall with a shoe size
\nof between 38 and 39.<\/p>\n
Only people with a missing family member were allowed to
\nexamine the head of the body after they stated that a picture of
\nthe body's head was similar to that of their loved one.<\/p>\n
Among the visitors was Suparman who arrived at the hospital at
\n3 p.m.<\/p>\n
He told the hospital staff that his relative Sugantio, a
\nresident of Cikokol, had gone missing last Saturday night in
\nTanjung Priok, North Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Sugantio has two wives: Sumarni who lives with him in Cikokol,
\nand Umi, who lives in Pandeglang, West Java.<\/p>\n
After examining the head of the body, Suparman refused to talk
\nfurther with reporters.<\/p>\n
He just said: \"I'm not yet sure.\"<\/p>\n
Suparman was still being questioned intensively by police.<\/p>\n
Late in the evening, Capt. Jufri of the city police detectives
\nviolent crimes unit said the police suspected that the body was
\nthat of Sugantio.<\/p>\n
He said Suparman was being questioned by police at the
\nhospital's morgue to find out more about the victim.<\/p>\n
\"I have a feeling that we (police) will be able to disclose
\nthis (killing) soon,\" Jufri said.<\/p>\n
The dismembered body parts were found in two separate
\nlocations in western Jakarta on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The first discovery was the torso at about 12:30 in Rancagede
\nvillage in Cisoka district (not Cikupa as police stated earlier)
\nof Tangerang, a 30-minute drive from Jakarta.<\/p>\n
About half an hour later, a plant trader on Jl. Arjuna, near
\nthe Kebun Jeruk toll road entrance, which is the quickest way to
\nTangerang, reported the discovery of a head, legs and arms.<\/p>\n
It was Budi who concluded on Monday that the body parts came
\nfrom the same person, saying the cuts matched.<\/p>\n
In a related development on Tuesday, city police chief Maj.
\nGen. Noegroho Djajoesman said police detectives were
\nconcentrating on the two sites where the body parts were found.<\/p>\n
At least three witnesses have been questioned, including those
\nwho found the body parts and those who may have seen vehicles
\nthat aroused their suspicion in the area before the body parts
\nwere found.<\/p>\n
\"I believe the body parts were not thrown from a passing car,
\nsomeone had to have got out of a car and placed the box and sacks
\n(containing the body parts). It took time, there must be people
\nwho noticed but did not realize that the person had committed a
\nsadistic crime,\" Noegroho said.<\/p>\n
Police also said the alleged murderer was a professional as he
\nor she understood the right method to cut up the human body.
