        "content": "<p>The United States Department of Defense (DoD), or the Pentagon, is\nproviding specialised versions of OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT and xAI\u2019s Grok to 3\nmillion civilian and military personnel.<\/p>\n<p>According to a report from TechCrunch on Monday (31\/8) local time,\nthe two services, named ChatGPT Mil and Grok for Government, are bespoke\nAI services tailored to meet military and defence requirements. ChatGPT\nMil and Grok for Government are now available through GenAI.mil, a\ncentralised AI portal launched by the Pentagon last year.<\/p>\n<p>The portal is designed to provide US Department of Defense employees\nwith access to various commercial AI models without the risk of\ntransmitting sensitive government data. According to the US Department\nof Defense, GenAI.mil has already been utilised by more than 1.7 million\nunique users out of approximately 3 million personnel within the\ndepartment\u2019s environment.<\/p>\n<p>ChatGPT Mil was developed through the OpenAI for Government programme\nand offers an experience similar to the public version of ChatGPT. The\nservice provides several capabilities, including conversation, file\nmanagement, projects, and specialised GPTs that can be customised to\nuser needs. The Pentagon stated that ChatGPT Mil will focus on routine\ntasks involving heavy documentation that do not involve classified\ninformation. Its use covers administrative tasks, logistics, planning,\nand policy drafting, with additional features to be developed\ngradually.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Grok for Government has a broader scope of use, including\nsupporting military operational needs. Grok can also assist the military\nin performing various tasks with greater speed and precision. Its\napplications include market research analysis for procurement needs and\nsupply chain management for logistics personnel.<\/p>\n<p>Grok for Government is provided through SpaceX\u2019s Starshield AI, which\nis a satellite network based on Starlink technology.
