PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), or Pelindo, has tested the\nemissions of around 500 operational and logistics vehicles in four\ncities as a step towards accelerating decarbonisation and achieving more\nenvironmentally friendly port management.<\/p>\n
Pelindo Deputy President Director Drajat Sulistyo said the emissions\ntesting of operational vehicles and logistics vehicles operating in port\nareas is part of the Merdeka Emisi programme, held in conjunction with\nthe 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia\u2019s independence.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis programme is being carried out simultaneously in Jakarta,\nMedan, Surabaya and Makassar, involving around 500 vehicles,\u201d Drajat\nsaid in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday.<\/p>\n
He said the Merdeka Emisi programme is part of Pelindo\u2019s efforts\ntowards increasingly environmentally friendly port management.<\/p>\n
According to him, thousands of vehicles enter and leave port areas\nevery day. Therefore, the move towards a Green Port needs to involve the\nentire ecosystem that works and operates at the port.<\/p>\n
\u201cMerdeka Emisi is one of the ways we invite logistics players to take\npart,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He stressed that the spirit of Merdeka Emisi is in line with the\ncommemoration of Indonesia\u2019s Independence Day through an invitation to\nall logistics players to protect the port environment by ensuring\nvehicles meet emission standards.<\/p>\n
In practice, vehicles undergo emissions checks to determine the\ncondition of their exhaust gases. Vehicles whose test results do not yet\nmeet emission standards are urged to carry out maintenance and repairs\nbefore undergoing re-testing.<\/p>\n
The implementation of emissions testing directly in the port area\nalso provides convenience for drivers. They can carry out checks while\ncarrying out their daily activities without having to find a testing\nlocation outside the port.<\/p>\n
Pelindo continues to improve energy and fuel efficiency, electrify\nequipment and operational vehicles, digitalise business processes, and\nutilise new and renewable energy at a number of port facilities.<\/p>\n
He noted that at Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta, 200 vehicles\ntook part in the emissions test. Most were container trucks that serve\nlogistics activities in the port area every day.<\/p>\n
The high volume of vehicle movement is a factor that needs attention\nin environmental management in port areas.<\/p>\n
Through Merdeka Emisi, Pelindo is inviting transport companies,\ndrivers and logistics business players to jointly maintain vehicle\nconditions and meet applicable emission standards.<\/p>\n
In the environmental field, Pelindo is also carrying out\nrehabilitation and conservation of coastal areas as well as biodiversity\npreservation programmes in various operational areas.<\/p>\n
According to Drajat, these steps are also aligned with the spirit of\nDanantara Indonesia in encouraging state-owned enterprises to create\nsustainable growth and provide long-term added value for the\ncountry.<\/p>\n
As the main gateway for national trade, ports have an important role\nin supporting the transition towards a low-carbon economy while\nmaintaining the efficiency of the national logistics chain.<\/p>\n
Deputy Minister of Transportation Suntana said efforts to maintain\nair quality in port areas require the involvement of all parties\ncarrying out activities within them.<\/p>\n
\u201cPorts are transportation nodes with very high vehicle movement,\u201d\nsaid the Deputy Minister.<\/p>\n
He stressed that controlling vehicle emissions is an important part\nof maintaining air quality and promoting a more sustainable\ntransportation system.<\/p>\n
