PT Pelindo Marine Service (Pelindo Marine) introduced the maritime\nworld and the importance of keeping the environment clean to children in\nRW 09, Tanah Kali Kedinding Urban Village, Kenjeran District, Surabaya,\nEast Java, on Saturday, through the Mariners Mengajar programme.<\/p>\n
The activity, themed \u201cKenjeran Wani Resik\u201d, invited children to\nunderstand the importance of protecting the environment from an early\nage, while also introducing the maritime world through colouring comics\nwith a tugboat theme.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough the Mariners Mengajar programme, we want to share knowledge\nwhile instilling positive values in children from an early age,\u201d said\nPelindo Marine Service Director of Finance, Human Resources, and Risk\nManagement Lia Indi Agustiana in Surabaya, East Java, on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Lia said the Mariners Mengajar programme is part of the company\u2019s\ncontribution to supporting character education, environmental awareness,\nand maritime literacy for the younger generation.<\/p>\n
According to her, introducing the maritime world from an early age is\nimportant considering Indonesia is an archipelagic country with a\nmaritime sector that plays a significant role in people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n
In addition to providing education about the environment, the\nchildren were also invited to be creative through tugboat comic\ncolouring activities.<\/p>\n
The activity served as a means for participants to learn about one\ntype of vessel that operates in supporting port activities.<\/p>\n
Head of RW 09, Tanah Kali Kedinding Urban Village, Yoyok Soehendro,\nappreciated the activity because education about environmental\ncleanliness is considered relevant to the condition of the area, which\nis located around the banks of the Kali Kedinding River.<\/p>\n
\u201cTanah Kali Kedinding Urban Village is located in an area adjacent to\nthe banks of the Kali Kedinding River. Therefore, education about\ncleanliness and environmental awareness is very important for the\ncommunity,\u201d said Yoyok.<\/p>\n
He said the Mariners Mengajar activity also continues a number of\nprevious Pelindo Marine programmes, including Kenjeran Wani Geni through\nfirefighting training and Kenjeran Wani Resik through assistance with\nwastewater treatment plant installations.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Pelindo Marine\u2019s Organising Committee for the 81st\nAnniversary of Indonesian Independence, Ery Ferriati, said the momentum\nof the independence anniversary can be used to build positive habits in\nthe community, including among children.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe spirit of independence can be realised through simple actions,\none of which is getting into the habit of disposing of rubbish in its\nproper place and keeping the surrounding environment clean,\u201d she\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Enthusiasm for the activity was also shown by the participants.<\/p>\n
Rizky, a third-grade primary school student, admitted she was happy\nto take part in the activity because, in addition to colouring, she\ngained new knowledge about tugboats.<\/p>\n
