State-owned port operator Pelindo has confirmed that operations at Kalimas Port in Surabaya remain normal despite a BMKG warning for potential tidal flooding from 12–18 June 2026. A brief inundation on Monday receded within two hours without disrupting activities. The company has implemented mitigation measures including drainage normalisation, standby pumps, and deployed monitoring personnel.

Pelindo continues to monitor the development of tidal conditions and
is coordinating with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency
(BMKG) and other relevant agencies.

Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) – Pelindo’s Kalimas Branch has confirmed
that port operations are continuing smoothly and safely amid an early
warning from BMKG Class II Tanjung Perak regarding potential tidal
flooding predicted to occur from 12 to 18 June 2026.

“Pelindo continues to monitor the development of tidal conditions and
is coordinating with BMKG and other relevant agencies,” said Ana
Andiliya, General Manager of Kalimas Port, GSN and the Passenger
Terminal in Surabaya on Tuesday.

The Kalimas Port area experienced some inundation due to the tidal
flood phenomenon on Monday (15/6), but it was quickly addressed and the
water receded in less than two hours, causing no significant impact on
port activities.

The tidal flooding that occurred is a natural phenomenon caused by
high tides, which raised the sea level by several centimetres and
inundated some coastal areas, including parts of the port.

Ana stated that despite the temporary inundation, all operational
activities at Kalimas Port continued as normal, including loading and
unloading, ship services, and port user activities, all of which were
not disrupted.

As a mitigation measure, Pelindo Kalimas routinely normalises
drainage channels to ensure optimal water flow. Additionally, several
water pumps have been placed on standby to accelerate the process of
draining water back to the sea should inundation occur due to high
tides.

Pelindo has also deployed personnel and operational teams at several
strategic points to monitor and respond quickly if the tidal flood
phenomenon recurs during the period predicted by BMKG.

“We have prepared various anticipatory measures, from normalising
drainage channels, to standby pumps, and personnel in the field,” she
said.

Ana also urged all port service users and communities around the port
area to remain vigilant regarding the potential for tidal flooding
during the period predicted by BMKG and to always follow official
information from the relevant authorities.
",
