        "content": "<p>The Pekalongan City Government (Pemkot) in Central Java has prepared\na plot of land for a Waste-to-Energy Processing Installation (PSEL)\nspanning five hectares as a regional solution for waste management, with\nfull financing from investors and no reliance on the Regional Revenue\nand Expenditure Budget (APBD). Pekalongan Mayor Afzan Arslan Djunaid\nstated in Pekalongan on Tuesday that his administration has signed a\nmemorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Environment and\nForestry (KLHK) and the Central Java Provincial Government, along with\nagreements with the Batang, Pemalang, and Pekalongan Regency Governments\nregarding the PSEL construction. \u201cThe land we have prepared covers about\nfive hectares around the Setono toll exit area. It even has the\npotential to expand to accommodate queues of waste-transporting trucks\nso as not to disrupt the roads,\u201d he said. \u201cProgress is ongoing at\npresent. We are now able to reduce about 50 percent through\ndecomposition, while the remainder we are pursuing at integrated waste\nprocessing sites or reduce, reuse, recycle waste processing sites,\u201d he\nadded. According to him, the current waste volume has reached around\n1,000 tonnes per day, necessitating collaboration with the four regions.\n\u201cWe hope this effort can proceed smoothly in handling waste in these\nfour regions, as the required waste volume reaches 1,000 tonnes per\nday,\u201d he said. \u201cEven though there is already an agreement and MoU, it\ndoes not mean people can freely dispose of waste indiscriminately; they\nmust still sort waste at home because building the waste-to-energy\nprocessing facility will take about one to two years,\u201d said Mayor Afzan.\nCurrently, Pekalongan City Government has several waste processing\nfacilities, such as the Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) and 3R\nWaste Processing Sites. However, the existing waste processing capacity\ncan only handle about 50 percent of the total waste generated.\n\u201cTherefore, the presence of this PSEL is expected to serve as a\nlong-term solution that not only reduces the waste burden but also\nproduces electricity beneficial to the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>",
