        "content": "<p>Pedestrians feel unsafe<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Many pedestrians no longer feel safe in the<br>\ncapital as a large number of pedestrian thoroughfares are being<br>\nused as parking lots or business sites, a city councilor says.<\/p>\n<p>Hasan Daisy, a councilor on Commission B, responsible for<br>\neconomic affairs, was quoted by Antara as saying yesterday that<br>\npedestrians find it difficult to walk safely in many areas like<br>\nJatinegara in East Jakarta, Kramat, Tanah Abang and Jl. Sabang in<br>\nCentral Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the sidewalks along Jl. Merdeka Selatan, Central<br>\nJakarta are now also used as parking lots.<\/p>\n<p>The councilor also criticized private car drivers, many of<br>\nwhom he believes lack discipline.<\/p>\n<p>\"Walking on the zebra crossings has also become a big problem.<br>\nMany motorists fail to stop even if they know a pedestrian is<br>\ntrying to cross the road.
