'Peci' factory destroyed by fire<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A fire gutted a Tanah Abang home industry that
\nproduces peci (national cap) in Central Jakarta on Thursday
\nmorning.<\/p>\n
No fatalities were reported, but the fire, that occurred at 7
\na.m., also burnt a Mercedes-Benz sedan and two motorcycles
\nbelonging to Makmun Sahabudi, the owner of the two-story house on
\nJl. Kampung Bali.<\/p>\n
Hundreds of local residents rushed to the scene to help
\nextinguish the fire and to stop it from spreading to neighboring
\nhouses.<\/p>\n
Firefighters then arrived in 10 fire engines.<\/p>\n
The fire was reportedly difficult to put out due to the large
\namount of textile materials and carpets in the building.<\/p>\n
With the help of residents and the rain, firefighters took two
\nhours to extinguish the blaze.<\/p>\n
Makmun speculated that the fire, that he said caused his
\nbusiness hundreds of millions of rupiah in losses, was started by
\na short circuit.<\/p>\n
\"I first saw the fire in the dining room,\" he told reporters
\nat the site.<\/p>\n
Makmun said that he was alone with his wife at the house when
\nthe fire started.<\/p>\n
The other family members were on vacation in Bali, he added.
