        "content": "<p>Peace education for Maluku victims<\/p>\n<p>AMBON, Maluku: Several non-governmental organizations (NGOs)<br>\ngrouped in the Humanitarian Association for Maluku (Humanum) have<br>\nlaunched a peace education program for the children of victims of<br>\nthe four-year religious conflict that erupted in 1999.<\/p>\n<p>The program aims to free the children from the trauma they<br>\nexperienced during the fighting, which first broke out on Jan 19,<br>\n1999, Humanum coordinator George Corputty said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;This peace education will hopefully encourage the children to<br>\ncontinue their studies and enjoy their childhood,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike normal methods of teaching, the peace education program<br>\nfocuses on singing, playing and sharing the children&apos;s feeling,<br>\nhe said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>At least 846 children, aged between 6 and 16 from nine refugee<br>\ncamps on Ambon island have been taking part in the program over<br>\nthe past few months.<\/p>\n<p>Corputty said the funding for the program came from the people<br>\nand non-governmental organizations committed to peace, including<br>\nforeign ones, he said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The funding is not big as volunteers and NGO activists are<br>\nnot teachers but friends who are ready to play with and tell the<br>\nchildren stories,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Corputty however did not mention the size of the funding<br>\nneeded for the program. --Antara<\/p>",
